Today is the last day to purchase the dichroic glass on sale!! It goes back to the regular price at noon. How has it gone over?? Pretty good. Actually, I have only a little of it left.Surprising since I purchased what I thought was quite an amount. Lots of comments about it though...Should have been on black, Why is it so thin?, How come only these designs not the usual ones?. With that in mind I tried to get glass that is not usual, doesn't hit the mainstream, &&& most of all something that you can't get at a regular glass store.
Does this sound bitter? I hope not. I just love to step outside the box & do something that scares me, not every day but more often than not. That's me. So now I get to prepare for a solo show. Scary!! Oh my, I only posted once while away. My goal was to keep a track of the whole vacation if I posted!! so much for good thoughts, & great intentions. We did have a different holiday, more so than I originally thought! Breakdowns & being stuck in parking lots beside the asphalt in a 100 degree heat with no air conditioning & no breeze...for 2 days while waiting for a part. But the up side of that was we got to meet some of the most interesting people who were so kind & helpful. Really puts a good feeling in your heart about the people in the world anymore. my family I am sure thought that we would be kidnapped & taken to work in the hills. Wouldn't happen I can't work like regular people. They would have returned me. Kept Luc though. I would have had to pay for his return, oh wait..no $$. Sorry honey.
Found a new place to live. Like I thought I would. But had to come home to pay for the gas Harvey sucked up like no tomorrow.
So here we are back to reality. Next week fusing Tuesdays start. This Friday we are starting the sale on Dichro glass. I was able to pick up lots of it while away. Check that out.. Also this week we have a huge shipment of glass being delivered. Another sale gonna happen with that. No room at the Inn. comes to mind. So today I am going to try & clean up so that we can fit what we don't sell into the studio...Anyone up for back breaking hand bombing glass sheets into the basement? Okay middle of a heat wave, (gotta love it) & I'm trying to organize workshops for the fall. How cool will it be? Are we up for the kilns going full time? Of course we are!! Heck they haven't stopped yet this summer! Although yesterday Mary was trying to work in the studio & the heat was too much. Sorry Mary. I am trying to find out some info for a workshop I'm teaching later this next year on marketing. Although it is easy to market someone else work it is very hard to market your own. I would appreciate anyone's input on this subject whether positive or not.Just e-mail back glasscuttersite@gmail.com with any tidbit. Please & thank you.
Now on to getting other workshops organized, both here & at the guild. We are having a guest instructor come some time later this fall. Lori is going to be teaching fritography, which is a form of painting with glass powders. Her work is amazing for both effect & finish. (Very important... finishing) We will also have a workshop on cold working your pieces. This is something until we are made aware of we don't think enough about. I will have everything posted along with pics next month.
We are heading out later this month till about August 20th. The studio will be closed. However when we get back we will have new stock here & a sale on both Tekta & Dichroic glass. The Tekta will have arrived & we are picking up the Dichroic while away. Yea Holiday time!! Thanks once again anyone who can give me any feed back on marketing.
No nothing posted for a little while as I have been playing. At least that is what Luc refers to it as. While purging & cleaning, & organizing the studio I decided to take the scraps (that are still good for something) and line them up. I set up 2 shelves in the kiln one for a stainless steel form to melt the glass into & the other dammed with bricks. Both had 1/8" fibre paper on the bottom & sides. Took the kiln up to 1750 degrees. Then lifted the lid & combed the glass. I think that if my kiln was a clamshell type it would work a little better. The heat would not be lost as fast. I had to keep closing the lid & bring the kiln back up to temp a few times to be able to comb the glass. Also my rake that I had made was a little too long so I did not have a as much control as I would have liked. All in all though once I clean the fibre paper off the bottom of the glass it was a good play time. The stainless steel mold was definitely not the best as I had an issue with debris coming off the stainless. Next week I will be making more with just the shelves & tons of kiln wash. Here we are 6 days into the holiday...2 new tires, & a new power steering tube later. Oh wait Dichro as well. It's been great other than the few gliches that Harvey threw at us. However we got to meet some of the nicest people! Happy garage owners that went out of there way to get us back on the road. We really appreciate garage workers let me tell you! I did get to wake up at sunrise on the beach yesterday though. Freakin fantastic! Running while the sun comes up. Life can be so good. Also got to see another Frank Loyd Wright house. My favourite architect. The sea food is amazing & we aren't even half way there yet! So all week I have been practicing driving Harvey. Our new/old motor home. A gem. 1977 (3 days older that our oldest child! according to the sticker on the inside door). Do they do that with stickers anymore? Telling you of the exact date the vehicle rolls of the assembly line? Driving forward is great cause she just feels like a huge van, backing up is a different story...the one mirror needs to be adjusted still. So I think I will head in a big circle around the New England States up to Nova Scotia & Home. Just like a donkey going forward only. I hope to be able to let you know about the trip as we go. Different beaches, sights & thoughts.
I know as I pass through pretty places I will want to relocate there, I always do. But rest assured it is a momentary thing. I will be wanting to come home at the end as hopefully the architect will have our new studio designs drawn up. I can hardly wait for that!! I am hoping that while we are away I will find some cold working equipment to send/bring back! We will also have a new kiln arriving in Sept. I am going to try the new Skutt kilns that are available from our supplier. Hopefully it will be as good a work horse as our Evenheat. loads to do in the fall.
I'm going outside now to take a picture of Harvey to upload. Hopefully it works. See you soon. Okay so nothing has occurred in my web for a while. I haven't been really gone, just busy. I am trying to get ready to do a road trip with Luc. It's time he got away too! So I plan a road trip a big circle actually. Around through the New England States up to Nova Scotia, P.E.I. maybe Newfoundland, then head towards home. Sounds good. I don't like that many hotels. So the idea of renting an R.V. was sounding good. Till I found out the price. So we bought one for cheaper than we could rent it! The plus list for doing this is so long because Luc actually went for it right away! We now have in our proud possession "Delilah" camper extra-ordinare. All ready to go with a few minor adjustments. Yea!!
Now to other news..September workshops. I have been in contact with Lori who is coming to teach a frit workshop. Unlike other methods of painting with frit Lori does her's a bit differently But the results are wonderful! I will be posting pics of these as soon as they arrive! So keep in mind sometime around September Lori will be here we will post the date as soon as it is firmed up. Just submit your name via e-mail & I will let you know of definite dates & prices. Uuugh! in the heat of yesterday I decided to move the glass rack in the studio. One of the things I have been procrastinating for a long time. There is a long "to do " list for the studio & gallery. I am taking control & stepping up to the plate & getting on with such things in life! That's my new mantra. I just wish I hadn't though of this in that heat. However... I started it & 2 hours later after emptying the glass out of the racks ( & taking note of what I have!) I realized There was no room for my Thursday afternoon open studio! So, phone calls went out to re-schedule.
Back to the glass rack. Stay on target , stay focused. Shuffle the big box of Bri's glass move the arborite table, (what a cute table. Why do I have it in the studio?) Wait, stay on target, stay focused. Sweep out the racks ..where is Luc to help me move this monster thing? Nope you can do it Jayne...Oh thank you Luc came home for lunch. Okay I know that's a regular happening thing but today He went out of town to work. But came back for lunch Yea! Thanks Luc for moving the rack.
Back to the rack. Fill it now. Everything back in it's place organized where each color is supposed to go. OOh what's this piece of glass. Maybe I need to save it. For what? Stay focused, stay on target. Put everything back in a neat & organized fashion.
Stand back & admire. The studio now has so much space. Last night's workshop everyone walked in through the garage door & had oodles of room to walk about. Why didn't we move that rack last year when I thought of it? Next the gallery. Stay on target, stay focused. My new Mantra. Today I'm up with the birds. I get to go for a Reiki treatment this morning. I think I'm excited, I've never had one & the comments I've heard make me think this is a good thing. Getting one that is.
Yesterday I started moving things all around the studio. After going to Atlanta, & seeing Lori's beautiful studio so organized, & well laid out. Made me come home & take stock of our surroundings. I have always been very proud of the studio Luc arranged for me, But now.... I want something that flows a bit better. Yesterday I moved a huge big cupboard 6'x10'x1'. All by myself. Then hand bombed a full crate of glass into the basement. Today I'm stiff. When I get back from my Reiki I am going to move the big rack with the stained glass. Any volunteers out there? This weekend I was an exhibitor in the Wellness Show in Delaware. An unusual event for me, however this is how it evolved.
A phone call from Jenn Boere (the organizer). The night before I left for Atlanta. Not a calm night. Chaos in fact. Finishing up little details (like laundry) before I left. So at my end of the conversation I heard...Wellness Show blah, blah, blah. Yup I agreed. I had no idea to what. Then next day out of my head & onward to Atlanta. After getting home I didn't really dwell on it or anything. I hadn't paid too much attention to the details. Then this week it was crazy as panic set in. What was I going to do? How would it be set up? Anyhow after some of my students encouraging me as to what they had got out of the workshops & sending letters of encouragement to me I pulled it off & I must say it looked pretty awesome. I even went out & rented table tops & skirts! Loads of inquiries regarding workshops with children & the weekend workshops We will see what happens in the next little while. 1
